BE-Print Training Overview
What is the BE-Print
Training?
BE-Print Trainings are designed for maximizing applications of research for distinctive populations in a wide variety of settings. The training components encompass a diverse array of applications of the latest research on human behavior with an emphasis on Perceptual Control Theory (PCT). BE-Print I (ACT I) and BE-Print II (ACT II) are sponsored in conjunction with the
International Association for Applied Control Theory, and meet the criteria set forth by the organization moving towards certification.
What is Perceptual Control Theory
(PCT)?
Perceptual Control Theory (PCT) is a way of thinking it is not a strategy or a program. PCT is the first tested and proven scientific explanation of human behavior.
What learning PCT requires is a major shift in understanding, what Thomas Kuhn called a “paradigm shift”. These types of changes in thinking change our perceptions and explanations of ourselves, and others in the world in which we live.
Knowing PCT can help you apply any program, strategy or technique,– be it learning, managing, working, or personally living- more effectively. Anyone who works with people - administrators, educators, corporations, counselors, corrections, parents and those seeking personal growth have benefited from understanding Perceptual Control Theory.
What is the BE-Print?
The BE-Print is a self-help system designed by
Shelley Roy and Glenn Smith.
It grew out of programs that they developed for their work with
educators, managers, counselors, and individual clients. The process
asks individuals to dig deep within to discover and align their beliefs,
principles and actions. This detailed agreement - The BE-Print™- an
individual makes with him/her self defines and describes the person
he/she wants to be and then serves as a personal yard-stick for
self-evaluation. The BE-Print has now become an integral component in
programs for school personnel, families, leadership and management
professionals, athletic teams, juveniles and adults with criminal
records, parents, organizations, and individuals.
Why Learn about PCT and the BE-Print?
-
To be able to create actions and relationships both person and
professional based on a scientifically tested theory of human behavior.
-
To more effectively manage emotions - especially when others don’t.
-
To understand whom you really want to be with self and others.
-
To be heard and understood more often.
-
To relieve personal stress and resolve internal conflicts.
-
To be aware of what you can and cannot control.

BE-Print I (ACT I) is a three-day intensive seminar intended for those
with little or no exposure to Perceptual Control Theory (PCT). Emphasis
is placed on learning the basics of PCT and the core principles of its
applications by practicing in small groups. Small-group work provides
participants with an opportunity to integrate applications by practicing
their newly-acquired skills in contexts related to their occupations.
BE-Print II (ACT II) is a three-day intensive seminar designed to
further develop and to refine skills in the application of Perceptual
Control Theory (PCT). Participants explore the complexity of the theory
as additional applications of PCT are presented and practiced.
Participants will also learn to apply their new skills to unfamiliar
contexts in order to generalize the PCT applications in personal and
professional settings.
